Founder Katsumi Matsumoto named the company Fuji Sangyo, hoping to reach the highest peak of Japan, like Mt. Fuji. Starting with only one person in an 8-tatami-mat room (around 13 square meters) in his home, the company achieved the highest volume of monooki sales and construction in Japan in its fourth year of operation. From there, the company has grown to a scale of 17 offices and 200 employees, with a record of being No. 1 in Japan for 39 consecutive years. Despite these achievements, Matsumoto himself believes that “Fuji Sangyo has only just reached the foot of Mt. Fuji, and hasn’t even started climbing it.”
I felt that Fuji Sangyo had greater potential to be more than Japan's No. 1 in monooki sales and construction for 39 consecutive years. Rather than just upholding the company's reputation as being Japan's No. 1 in monooki sales, there were more things that Fuji Sangyo should do, more things that only Fuji Sangyo could do. As I followed in Katsumi Matsumoto's footsteps, I started wondering about ways to prove that what Fuji Sangyo had done was the best in the industry. And so, on the anniversary of our 40th year in business, we created Matsumoto Monooki, which is the culmination of everything Fuji Sangyo has done. Although we are not yet satisfied with the state of our business, we are steadily expanding sales.
In the 60 years since the first monooki, "Mejiro Factory Seiry House," went on sale in Japan in 1964, Matsumoto Monooki is a NEW JAPANESE MONOOKI that embodies what all monooki manufacturers have not done, not been able to do, and not thought of doing. It is a monooki that will leave a mark on the 60-year history of monooki, embodying Katsumi Matsumoto's conception of what monooki is, with an original design with the triangular roof and body in a single color. In addition, we have been a top distributor of Japanese monooki manufacturers for more than 40 years. We are a company with a very strong passion for the monooki industry. All of our thoughts and regrets from this long history are incorporated into these Matsumoto Monooki products.
I love monooki and I am always thinking about monooki. I believe the quality, ease of use, and durability of Japanese monooki are definitely at the highest level in the world. But I think that's not all there is to a monooki. We would be very pleased if we could make people happy and pleasantly surprised with our amazing designs. I don't think we can make this industry better than it is now by conforming to conventional wisdom and rules and doing things in such a way that people who conduct themselves the right way lose out. I will continue to create NEW JAPANESE MONOOKI more freely, without conforming to the crowd, without flattering others, and without giving up. What drives me the most is my never-ending passion for monooki and the regrets and frustrations I have experienced so far. I will wholeheartedly play with the concept of monooki to create new surprises and forms for them. My job is to ensure that everyone who thinks, builds, transports, assembles, sells, and buys our products is glad that they went with Matsumoto Monooki.
I, who was in my mother's belly when the company was founded, have now taken over Fuji Sangyo Co., Ltd, which is the same age as me. We will now climb from the foot of Mt. Fuji to the top, aiming to be the best in Japan. To prove that what my father has done for 45 years for Fuji Sangyo and Matsumoto Monooki was correct, I will compete in the industry with all my might together with my employees of Fuji Sangyo.
